Building Children Protection Program in the period of 2021 – 2025
At the event, the delegates actively discussed the report on the evaluation of the implementing the Children Protection Program 2016-2020 in Dien Bien Province, measures to prevent child abuse, child violence, child marriage, consanguine marriage as well as measures to improve the quality of children protection services.
The overview of the workshop
Accordingly, the whole province has 124,472 children under 16 years old; children with special circumstances under the Law on Children up to 2020 are 2,302 children; 1,616 children receive the monthly social allowance from the state; 74,328 children are at risk of falling into special circumstances (mainly those living in poor families). Besides, 254 children with special circumstances are brought up at the Provincial Social Protection Center and SOS Children's Village in Dien Bien Phu.
With the all-out efforts of the departments, branches, and localities, the quality of children protection services has considerably improved.
The work of children protection is paid attention to at all three levels including prevention, intervention, and support so as to promptly detect, reduce, or eliminate the risk of harm to children. The children are offered the opportunity to get access to social support services as well as a safe, friendly, and healthy living environment.
Over the past five years, Dien Bien Province has supported 457 children with special circumstances in the localities. Also, 29 children who experienced violence, labor abuse, and sexual abuse received support.
Four districts benefiting from World Vision’s projects in Vietnam include Muong Cha, Tua Chua, Dien Bien Dong, and Tuan Giao.
The projects promote propaganda and equip children with skills on the prevention of injury and violence so that they can know to report to the adults or competent authorities.

Recently, World Vision in Vietnam has coordinated with the Committees on Children Protection of four communes namely Pu Nhung, Rang Dong, Phinh Sang, and Ta Ma in Tuan Giao District to organize the dialogue with the children themed “The impact of COVID-19 epidemic on children and solutions". The event witnessed the participation of 73 committee members on children protection and 130 children from four aforementioned communes.
